Make your home safe and comfortable.
- Install smoke detectors in bedrooms, hallways, kitchen, garage and furnace
/ hot water heater areas
- Install carbon monoxide detectors on each level of
a home having any type of gas appliance
- Change the batteries in smoke and
carbon monoxide detectors when you change your clocks in the spring and
the fall
- Have a fire escape plan and practice it
- Use power strips with built-in circuit
breakers instead of extension cords on a two pronged outlet
- Make sure fireplace
damper and flue are clean and in good condition before burning any wood
and keep all combustible materials at least 3 feet from fireplace opening
- Use
child-proof locks and outlet protectors for small children and pets
- Clean
your stove, oven and hood vent regularly to avoid fire hazards
- Never use
the stovetop as counter space
- Keep a multi-purpose dry chemical fire extinguisher
in the kitchen
- Keep all flammable or combustible items away from heat sources
in the garage
- Don’t overload your circuits and make sure that breaker boxes
are easily accessible
